It's Her Business: Caroline Idiens

We're getting cosy with Caroline, Founder of Caroline's Circuits. It's always inspiring to hear about someone's goals being reached and their journey to getting there.

Hello, tell us a bit about yourself

I’m Caroline, a 49 year old personal trainer and fitness coach, mum of two and a dog lover!

It's lovely to meet you Caroline. Talk to us about your business…

I've been a personal trainer for over 20 years. I started in advertising and then qualified as a PT in London in 2001. I had always loved fitness and wanted to take my passion for sport one step further. It was the best decision I ever made. I had private clients in London and then expanded into group exercise when we moved out to the country. I had a wonderful client base and have made some great friendships along the way all through word of mouth. In April 2020 Caroline’s Circuits was born.

Sounds like a great progression, what made you start your own business?

At the start of lockdown I decided to take my classes online. I had no idea how training would work across a screen but I was desperate to find a way for my clients to continue their exercise programs from home. My focus has always been on strength training - whilst many were still managing to fit in their cardio at home with running/cycling/swimming etc there was something missing - strength. So I started the classes on Zoom, all in 30 minute sessions, for all fitness levels and all easy to do at home with little equipment. The community just expanded overnight and I have been truly overwhelmed by the response.

What have been your biggest learning experiences since becoming a business owner?

The power of Instagram! I had no idea of the power of advertising on social media. I started a business account at the same time and the support network has been incredible on Instagram amongst women in my core target group.

If you could give one bit of advice to someone thinking of starting their own business, what would it be?

It's really really hard work - it's all hours and 7 days a week but the rewards are huge. It is so satisfying to be able to say you did it by yourself and it's your baby.

What has your biggest success/accomplishment/achievement been since starting your business?

Just seeing my community grow - the feedback I get from my subscribers truly makes my day - especially from women who have never exercised and now feel healthier, stronger and more confident in themselves. It's worth every single class.

Which woman has inspired you the most?

Hard to choose one! Davina Mccall, Gabby Logan, Jessica Ennis, Michelle Obama - all amazing, powerful women.
